Flights between Atlantic City and Las Vegas are to begin on May 3. A new nonstop flight will connect the nation’s two main gambling hotspots, Spirit Airlines announced Thursday. The added flight is significant for Atlantic City International Airport, which is served by only two commercial carriers: Spirit and Delta Air Lines.

Joe Kelly, president of the Atlantic City Regional Chamber of Commerce, said the service to Las Vegas will be useful for casino executives. Several companies own properties in both cities and need their workers to travel between them frequently. The additional service also makes it easier for travelers all over the West to reach Atlantic City as the resort tries to expand its convention business. Associated Press

trip to macaoGambling Paradise:40 miles from Hong Kong. The Chinese territory aspires not just to be the Las Vegas of Asia but to beat Vegas at its own game.

Last year, 100,000 Americans visited Macao, most of them taking side trips from Hong Kong, and Macao is building luxury hotels with entertainment and world-class shopping to increase those numbers.

Contrasts make Macao intriguing
. Its dozen square miles, including Taipa and Coloane islands, is a pastiche of Portuguese, Chinese and Macanese cultures. And, yes, Vegas-like lights and action.

With $5.3 billion last year in gambling revenues, Macao is poised to surpass Las Vegas, which in 2005 had total revenues, including from off-Strip sites, of $7.6 billion. In Macao, 95 percent of the casino action is at the tables. In Nevada, it’s slots — 67 percent statewide, 52.2 percent on the Las Vegas Strip. Funny if you think that locals used to travel to Hong Kong just to go to McDonald’s

I am planning a trip there myself :) … I don’t like McDonald’s anyway…
