Manufacturers say the games aren’t addictive, but experts say the games provide an alternative life in which people who don’t feel they are successful in real life can become powerful as characters.

Often internet addiction is related to porn sites and gambling but games such as World of Warcraft and EverQuest can be as addictive. Many mental health professionals now agree that online gaming addictions exist, although little scientific research has been done.

“We feel that a person’s day-to-day life should take precedence over any form of entertainment,” wrote Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment maker of World of Warcraft.

In a way he is right as any hobby can become addictive if it is abused.
